Small village where the croissant truck rolls through on Sunday mornings... lavender & vineyards abound. Home was built in 14th Century, & has been modernized. Cycling routes are the best one could ask for, the backyard is a national park, Ardèche river is ten minutes away, ancient caves with etchings of the first humans, fresh air away from tourists, yet close enough to easily access Avignon and other cultural spots, wine regions of Chateauneuf du Pape & many other great Côtes du Rhone wines.
The house is actually two buildings separated by a beautiful courtyard with stone staircase and fruit trees (this is where Rob and Susie held their wedding ceremony). The main house has three bedrooms (king, queen, two singles), two bathrooms, a kitchen, a dining room (dining area for 10), living room, sunken living room and a cave. The other building has two bedrooms: one bedroom (double) and a large studio (double) with a bathroom, and two large unfinished rooms (an unfinished studio currently used as a bikeshop and an unfinished room currently used to store wood). The yard includes two ponds with fish, apricot trees, cherry trees, almond trees, roses, olive trees, and other bushes and plants expertly maintained by a local gardener. There are beautiful views from the house of the hills in the national park, lavender fields, and vineyards as well as the Alps off in the distance. The village boules court (bocci ball) is just a few feet from the house. The village is only about six homes.
5 bedrooms, 3 baths. You could sleep 10 comfortably and also easily enjoy the home as just a couple of people.
The home includes a full working kitchen with microwave, toaster, coffee maker, kettle, refrigerator, freezer, all pots, pans, bakewear, dishes, glasswear, cutlery, spices, a rotisserie inside the oven - great for chickens, and a dishwasher. There is also a grill for outdoor cooking. All linens for the beds and towels are included. There are reclining and regular outdoor chairs as well as an outdoor table to enjoy the yard, courtyard, and balcony. There is a telephone, answering machine, TV, stereo, VCR, and DVD player. There is a washing machine. There is a large fireplace and heaters in every room.
With its hilly contours and Mediterranean climate, the Ardèche is a great region for hiking, cycling and canoeing. The Ardèche is a region of arid plateau and caves gouged out by subterranean rivers, and its name comes from the river that fashioned its 37 kms of gorges, and the natural arch of the Pont d'Arc. Prehistoric caves are numerous: the most famous are the Aven d'Orgnac with its guided tours and the Grotte Chauvet concealing the world's oldest cave paintings.
Avignon, the old papal city, with theater, music, and shopping is 45 minutes away. Many quaint and interesting cultural villages, roman ruins, and shopping are closeby.
The house is located in the Southern part of the Rhone Valley, France's wine growing region extending from Vienne in the north to Beaucaire south of Avignon. The appelations that are closest include Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Cotes du Rhone, Cotes du Rhone Village, Gigondas and Vacquerayas.
