This old house was built on the site of a 14th century renaissance castle owned by Marguerite de Navarre, the sister of Francois I. There are still many 14th century architectural details to be admired, although the 17th century dominates. The property consists of a main house and a maison d' amis.
There are paved and grassy areas for sitting and playing between the mature trees and Mediterranean bushes and flowers. From the garden you enter the sitting room of the maison d'amis. This boasts a working fire place and a well equipped corner kitchen (with dishwasher). Stairs take you up to the first floor, with two twin bedded rooms (15m² and 13 m²) with windows looking out onto the garden and pool, a bathroom with bath and shower cubicle, and a separate W.C. Turning stairs climb up to the second floor, two more twin bedrooms(14m² and 13m²) looking out over the garden, shower room with hand basin and separate W.C. Out of the garden and into the main house, choose one of the right doors and you enter the main house sitting room(42m²) with its impressive wooden (à la francaise) ceiling and arched stone fireplace. Sitting room with stressed wood ceiling and arched stone fireplace, and staircase From the sitting room you can go into the stairwell and up to the first floor, a twin bedded room (18m²)with balcony looking out over the garden and pool, another twin bedded room (14m²) with a window looking out over the pool, a large bathroom with exposed stone and paint effects, equipped with twin basins, bath, separate shower and window looking out over the pool, a separate W.C., and a large study area which can be used as an extra single bedroom. View from bedroom balcony, bathroom and bedroom Another sitting room door leads through to a remarkable patio, which is just the place for eating in the stone cooled shade when the sun is high, while admiring the carved stone details all around. With doors leading from this patio into the kitchen, eating outside is easy. The kichen (25m²) is fully equipped and light and airy, with a dining area at one end and a laundry room (7m²) equipped with washing machine and dryer at the other. From the dining area there are doors out to the garden and the shady patio courtyard, also an opening into the sitting room. At the other end of which is a door which leads into the entrance lobby and the front door.Out the front door, and there is a mainly graveled forecourt (80m²), with room to park two cars comfortably and securely.
Out the green gates and you are in Montblanc, a charming little village, 10 minutes from Pezenas, 25 minutes from the sea and five minutes from a golf course. There is a bar restaurant and various small shops, more bars and restaurants can be found in the surrounding villages and area, and a regular market. Montblanc is a flourishing wine-producing village with an historic 12th century church, and many narrow, twisting streets. There is, of course, a Cave Co-operative selling the locally produced wine

Out and About
Golf and horse-riding are available nearby. Inland at 40 minutes' drive is the magnificent Lac du Salagou providing bathing, wind-surfing, fishing and excellent hilly walks. The village is surrounded by vineyards and beautiful open countryside and many good walks and picnics can be had in the area. The Mediterranean beaches are close by, ranging from a 7-mile long stretch of sand at Marseillan Plage to lively, cosmopolitan resorts like Cap d`Agde - where can also be found Europe`s largest naturist resort. The Herault River and thc Canal du Midi offer numerous opportunities for walking, swimming, fishing and boat trips. Pezenas, the nearest town, boasts a lively Saturday market, two supermarkets, banks, bars and restaurants.. In the other direction from Montblanc is Beziers, 20 minutes' drive away, a city with a turbulent past but now one of the jewels of the Midi..We think this house is ideally situated - 30 minutes from the Mediterranean, but far enough inland to avoid the crowds of July and August. We are surrounded by countryside and waterways offering every opportunity for a 'get-away-from-it-all' holiday of peace and relaxation, whilst being within easy driving distance of lively towns and cities offering everything from street markets to classical concerts. You need never leave the village, or you could pack your holiday with endless activities and excursions. The choice is yours!
